Whipped these up for my mom today based on what was lying around the pantry and fridge - she's off on a business trip soon and I wanted to give her something high fibre and protein with minimal fat and a touch of sweetness to keep her going. Buttermilk, whole grains, tons of fruit, flax and whey powder fit the bill nicely - definitely a meal in a bar! Heavily adulterated from Jim Dodge's "Breakfast Bar" recipe found in "The Best of FOOD" by Marion Kane.

Parkinsons Patients May Benefit From
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 05, 2012 Corneal specialist Dr. Rajesh Khanna is one of the leading pioneers of Lasik surgery. He has been performing surgical eye procedures and specializing in eye care for over twenty years. He has helped patients suffering from various eye disorders and diseases and through his expertise he has recently made an astounding discovery. Dr. Khanna has found that patients suffering from Parkinson?s disease may benefit from Prelex or Lasik eye surgery. Parkinson?s disease is a motor functioning disorder and occurs when there is a problem with a specific nerve cell in the brain.
Parkinson?s disease is defined as the inability of the nerve cells to produce dopamine, a chemical which tells the body to move. When these cells are affected the body cannot move properly. Parkinson?s is a slow process, occurring over time. The symptoms of Parkinson?s include; tremors, a shaking or trembling of the body. Tremors may affect ones hands, arms, or legs. Additional symptoms include, stiff muscles, slow movement, and problems with balance or walking. These tremors and slow movement can cause much difficulty for patients that need to wear glasses or contact lenses. Also the slow movement may mean that it takes extensive time to walk to the glasses or contacts. Dr. Khanna suggests that Prelex or Lasik treatment may be a great option for these patients. After surgery, vision will be drastically improved and patients will not need to bother with the hassle of glasses or contacts. For those that are between the ages of 18 to 40, Lasik is a great alternative. Over the past few years Lasik has become the most desired procedure in the country. Dr. Khanna offers the most modern Lasik technology, the procedure itself takes only 15 minutes per eye and has an extremely quick recovery.
For patients over the age of 45 Prelex is a great alternative. Unlike traditional vision correction procedures, prelex corrects nearsightedness and farsightedness by replacing the eye's natural dysfunctional lens with a special presbyopic intra-ocular lens, such as the restor aspheric or crystalens HD. Prelex is a great alternative for people who do not medically qualify for Lasik or other refractive surgeries, have early signs of cataracts, would like to depend less on bifocals or reading glasses, or are severely nearsighted or farsighted. Almost all people who have PRELEX will not need glasses for distance or reading. An advantage to Prelex is that cataracts are prevented, as one cannot form in an artificial lens. Overall prelex and lasik are great alternatives and can truly help aid Parkinson?s patients by providing immensely improved vision, and the freedom to not worry about holding, putting on, losing, or locating glasses or contacts.
The Khanna Institute maintains two locations in California for patient convenience. One is located at 240 S. La Cienega Blvd., #250 in Beverly Hills and the second is at 179 Auburn Court #1 in Westlake Village.

Article ContentAuthor NameArticle Title Home Submit Articles Author Guidelines Publisher Guidelines Content Feeds RSS Feeds FAQ Contact UsTIME magazine (October 16, 2006), in an article on child mortality caused by diarrhoea, a water- borne disease, says that the annual toll of the disease is 1.9 million children. A telling comment on what humanity has done to its water resources!
When we see photographs of distant planets taken by space probes, one thing strikesus immediately. Without water bodies, they look so lifeless. We realize how singularly unique and blessed our planet is and how human existence is inextricably linked to water.
What have we done with the abundant resources of water given to us by Nature? Our lakes, rivers and oceans are filled with chemical effluents, industrial wastes, sewage and myriad forms of pollutants. They kill plant and animal life in them and inhibit the natural processes of recycling of water.
Pollution of Earth's Water ResourcesIn 1999, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) reported that 200 scientists in 50 countries had identified water shortage as one of the two most worrying problems for the new millennium (the other was global warming). The American humourist Mark Twain said, "Whisky is for drinking and water is for fighting over". It is predicted that, more than oil, water will be the bone of contention in the wars of the future. Alarmist though it might sound, this is not beyond the pale of possibility. The problem is compounded by the fact that human beings go on polluting natural water sources in several ways thus reducing the quantum of useable water. Sewage and fertilizers find their way into water bodies. Their chemical contents over stimulate growth of water plants and algae shutting out sunlight from the depths. Run off rain water from garbage dumps, landfills, construction sites, factories carry pollutants to lakes and rivers In Third World countries, where disposal of human waste is still not organized and open sewers are the order of the day, water is the first casualty. Water borne chemical effluents entering our waterways are a feature of the 20th century. Herbicides and pesticides are in wide use in agriculture. Even cows grazing grass are liable to yield contaminated milk. Even the pristine purity of our glaciers and ice caps have been compromised by expeditions. Mount Everest, for instance, has become a tourist haunt. Mountains of plastics and other pollutants are left behind by every team that takes a crack at the peak. Rainwater is also contaminated by atmospheric pollution, acid rain being an example. Oil spillages, radioactive wastes and polluted rivers discharging into oceans are severely affecting marine life and the food chain, setting the stage for an ecological disaster. One litre of oil can pollute one million litres of water. Contamination of drinking water sources with the urine and faeces of infected animals or people.
Urgency
The clock seems to be ticking as warning signs appear. Alfred Tennyson's Ancient Mariner said, "Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink." But today, even we landlubbers have come to a similar pass. Clean water, pure water is no longer available. Safe drinking water is fast becoming a myth. Indeed, more than a billion of the world's population does not have enough drinking water at all.Water drawn for human consumption from wells, bore wells, lakes and rivers can no longer be considered absolutely safe. Water today needs to be rid of contaminants to produce pure water for human consumption or for industrial use. The villains of the water story are parasites ( such as Giardia or Cryptosporidium), bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals including toxic metals such as lead, copper etc., and man-made chemical pollutants.Water FiltersWater is used as a cleaning agent in our daily lives. It is also vested with a spiritual symbolism. Baptism with water or bathing in River Ganges is supposed to wash away one's sins. But if water gets polluted, how shall we get it purified? The answer is filtration!
We have come a long way from the days of Hippocrates of 4th century BCE who introduced the method of putting boiled water through a cloth bag which is now called Hippocrates's sleeve.Water filters employ a variety of processes, often in combination with one another: Oxidation: Using chemicals like chlorine and chlorine dioxide effective against microorganisms, combined with sand bed filter Boiling - kills microorganisms, an age old method Ozone - A molecule of oxygen, broad-spectrum disinfectant, effective against protozoa that produce cysts, and most other pathogens.UV radiation - eliminates pathogenic bacteria causing cholera, typhoid, and salmonella dysentery Reverse osmosis - use of a membrane to keep out salts, insoluble ions and concentrations Carbon filtering - removes many compounds including toxic ones Distillation - purifies water 99%, but tasteless and addition of minerals improves taste Ion Exchange -removes heavy metal content and softens hard water Micro filtration through ceramic cartridges - even the minutest contaminants are denied passage through these filtersChoice of Water FiltersBefore you choose your water filter, you should get the water analysed and determine the filtration processes called for, the output and cost effectiveness. You have a good variety of water filters to choose from.
Filters: Aquasana produces water filters for kitchens and for showers as well. Its household model employs four stages of filtration. Periodic replacement of filters is advised. Distillers: You can choose from among Water Wizard, Pure Magic and Waterwise 7000 series. There is also a non-electric model (1600). All these distillers come with a supply of trace minerals which lend taste to the water after distillation. Ionizers: For alkaline water - Bion Tech Digital BTM -3000N turns dead tap water into vibrant water. Bion Tech BTM-200N uses silver impregnated carbon filtration before ionization. Bion Tech 500 incorporates twelve stages of filtration. Bion Tech BTM-105 U takes care of acidic water as well. Pi Water: The Neos Pi Water Filter incorporates an eight stage filtering system which also invests water with taste and vibrancy after filtering out all kinds of contaminants. ConclusionIn urban areas, municipal authorities operate water purification plants and supply protected water to their populations. But where finer standards are prescribed for domestic or industrial purposes, water filters have come to play an important ancillary role. In the rural areas and the outback, they will play the primary role in ensuring supply of safe and palatable water for domestic use.The Age of Aquarius is at hand. May the gentleman with the down turned pitcher of flowing water pour wisdom into the hearts of men and inspire them to preserve in all its purity the life giving gift of Nature!

Armin Van Buuren
Armin van Buuren
Armin van Buuren is once more lord of the Trance and the king of the dance floor, taking the No. 1 spot in the DJ Mag Top 100 for the third year running. Being the official World's Most Popular DJ is just one of his many achievements, but the driving force behind his success is an overriding passion for dance music. Armin van Buuren was born in Leiden, the Netherlands on December 25, 1976. He finished high school in 1995, and left for college to study law. While studying law, his interest for making music blossomed, and he began working as a DJ in a local club called Nexus. As his musical career began to take off, he temporarily put his law degree on hold, however, he did complete his law degree in 2004 via Oxford University. The final year of his course was inevitably stretched as he juggled his studies with his increasingly hectic schedule; his rise to fame included lots of productions and remixes, as well as playing out to packed clubs every weekend. It took him three years to graduate, but his determination made him succeed. Armin indulged his passion for music from a young age. He spent all the money he earned on records. When he was 10, his mother won a computer, gaining Armin's interest. "So as a little nerdy kid I was writing my own basic programs, and learnt about the technology from there." He progressed from making low profile mix tapes for friends to higher profile mixes when he discovered experimenting with different sequences on his computer through his uncle. "I was so stunned by what I saw him doing on the computer, that I got addicted to creating music right there and then! "I loved Dance music immediately - this great rebellious sound that was so different". Armin cites electronic pioneer Jean Michel Jarre as a major influence, as well as Dutch producer Ben Liebrand, who later mentored him in his mixing and producing. His "Universal Religion" series has been going strong ever since the first edition in 2004. Every edition is a live recording, straight from the epicenter of Dance in summer: Club Amnesia in Ibiza. Every summer, Armin holds residency in this renowned club on the party isle. As the club fills with Dance lovers from all over the world, a special, atmosphere takes over, these special moments of pure Trance bliss, Armin captures onto his "Universal Religion" albums. Latest "Universal Religion 4" is filled with exclusive tracks and remixes, in a tight mix, live recorded at the sacred club. Armin has always had his own studio and worked alone in the beginning of his career. Since the release of his third studio album "Imagine" in 2008 he has been working with Benno de Goeij of Rank1 on all his productions and remixes. Since 1995, he has released many tracks on different labels with increasing success. His first big success was "Blue Fear" at the age of 19. This 'Euro Trance blueprint' made it into the UK Chart. "Communication" was released on the same label, and had a huge impact on Ibiza in the summer of 1999. After being signed to AM PM Records, it busted into the UK Singles Chart at #18 in 2000. Early 1999 Armin started the Armind label together with United Recordings. First release, "Gig One" was well received. Follow up "Touch Me", under the alias Rising Star, was signed to Ministry of Sound UK, while "Free" was signed to R&S Records. Under the Gaia monniker he released "4 Elements" on Captivating Sounds, a sub-label of Warner Brothers. Teaming up with Tiësto, two new projects saw life; under the guise Major League "Wonder Where You Are?" was released on Black Hole Recordings while "Eternity" was released via Armind under the alias Alibi. "Eternity" gained worldwide club and chart success and was signed to Paul van Dyk's Vandit Records. Another major collaboration, this time with Ferry Corsten, resulted in the classic and very successful Trancer "Exhale". In 2000, Armin started his own Armin van Buuren compilation series. He managed to find a balance between Progressive, Techno and Trance. First "A State of Trance" compilation, released in 2000, it sold more than 10,000 copies and contains his infamous remix of Moogwai's, "Viola". The "A State Of Trance" compilations have won many awards and continue to lead the Trance fans in the right direction with a fresh and exclusive selection of the hottest tracks. Second compilation "Basic Instinct" saw its release early 2001. Third compilation "In Motion" was released August 2001 with 4th comp "Transparence", hitting the streets in 2002. In 2003 the "76" compilation saw light with Ultra Records releasing in USA and Canada. 1 BIOGRAPHY (continued) In 2008 his artist album titled 'Imagine' entered the Dutch Album Top 100 Chart at no. 1; the first time a Dance producer accomplished such a feat in the history of Dutch music. The first single taken from the album, "Going Wrong", debuted on his A State Of Trance radio show. The single sees the collaboration of Armin van Buuren with hot German producer Shah and singer Chris Jones. 'Imagine' debuted at #4 on the US Billboard's Top Electronic Albums Chart. Video of second single "In and Out of Love", featuring Sharon den Adel from world renowned Goth rockers Within Temptation, achieved more than 35 million views on YouTube. The album also spawned two more singles, "Unforgivable" featuring Jaren, and "Fine Without You", a collaboration with Jennifer Rene. On the remix front While the remix offers flood in, Armin only takes on tracks that he really loves. He has remixed the theme for the cult TV series 24 as well as tracks for the likes of Motorcycle, The Killers, BT and Moogwai, amongst others. He uses exactly the same criteria for his compilations, meaning that every release from Armin on his long-running Armind label is a bona fide stormer. Armin Only An all-night dance event featuring a nine hour set by the man himself . The event consists of various genres of Dance music (but most predominantly Trance), light, laser and firework shows and supporting acts of singers/vocalists. Sold-out Armin Only shows in 2005 and 2006 created eager anticipation of the third edition, which kicked off in Utrecht The Netherlands in 2008; over 16,000 fans attended and were enthralled by Armin's set. The theme of the night was 'Imagine', described by Armin as "the celebration of our sensations both in life and in club land." Fans all around the world needed not to despair as Armin took the event to Romania, Poland, Belgium, Australia and USA. On New Year's Eve 2008 Armin managed to draw 45,000 fans to the event at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Promotion of his album "Imagine" has been a prominent concept with the 2008 Armin Only Tour and as such applying the 5 concepts of Imagination (Vision, Scent, Touch, Sound, Emotion) to his sets. The next Armin Only events are in the works for 2010 and 2011. A State Of Trance radio show In March 2001, he started his own radio show on ID&T Radio. In this weekly two-hour show, entitled 'A State of Trance', he plays the latest popular Trance tracks. His show and the artists he features are popularized by publishing the artists and track titles on his website. This radio-show/website combination has proven popular internationally. When ID&T Radio changed genres in 2004, van Buuren left and took A State of Trance with him. It is now a weekly feature on appr. 40 worldwide FM radio stations. A complete list of stations that broadcast A State of Trance can be found at the ASOT section of Armin's website. Internationally, the show attracts more than 26 million listeners a week, making it the most popular radio show in the world. The first broadcast was aired from Club Butan in Wuppertal Germany on Thursday April 16th, the second on Friday April 17th from Club Air in Birmingham, U.K., and the third and last one was closed down in style on Saturday April 18th in the massive Maas Silo in Rotterdam. Armin personally appeared at all locations. Armada Music Amsterdam based Armada Music was founded in June 2003 by Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis. "Armada" was formed by utilizing the first two letters in each of the founding members' names. The highly successful label currently has 19 different sub-labels (including Armind) representing many different types of electronic music. 2 BIOGRAPHY (continued) New Media On the road biography 'Armin Only' Dutch author Coen Bom, has followed Armin around the world for over a year. Focusing on a very important year in Armin's musical career, the one in which he's crowned to 'Number 1 DJ of the World'. Coen gives you a full report of Armin's many gigs, backstage adventures and journeys across the globe. With exclusive interviews, photo's and much more. Awards & Accolades With a hectic schedule packed to the rafters with headline slots at major clubs and festivals across the globe this is a man truly at the top of his game. His productions have all made a huge impact and quickly gain worldwide acclaim. He is a dedicated Trance lover, but isn't imprisoned by a single genre, saying "What makes Trance work so well is that it doesn't stick to one style, and can incorporate electro, minimal, whatever it likes." The main ingredient to Armin's life will always be music. "This is just what I really want," he says. "It's not just love for music, it's my passion. It goes beyond liking, and beyond a hobby, it's about a way of living. Music is essential to my life". November 2009 arminvanbuuren.com astateoftrance.com youtube.com/arminvanbuuren In October 2009, Armin had the premiere of launching the first full music DVD as an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch. M83
M83 Hurry Up, We're Dreaming "We didn't need a story, we didn't need a real world. We just had to keep walking and we became the stories We became the places." With these soft spoken words on the simply-titled opening track--"Intro"-- M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez introduces us to his sixth record and first double disc album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. Dauntlessly singing into the void that was left behind since Saturdays=Youth, Gonzalez suddenly surges with overwhelming emotion as the music mounts an invisible precipice. Historically, he softly eased you into his world, introducing you to the lush and radiant spaces between captivating melodies and intimate lyrics, but not this time. Not on this record. Graduating from the fuzzy, fumbling emotional cobwebs and draped ambiance of past records, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming careens past its audience. Brazenly stretching out along the horizon, spilling glittery, golden arms of sound across the landscape, it holds your breath hostage without you even noticing you were missing it. If it seemed that Anthony was basking in the sunshine-drenched days of his youth when he released Saturdays in 2008, then it can be said that in 2011, at the age of 30, he is tempestuously charging towards his future with Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. Relocating to Los Angeles from Antibes, Gonzalez surrounded himself with players pivotal to completing his childhood dream of a double disc record. Producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta, Goldfrapp) and guitarist Brad Laner (from 90's band Medicine) had been hugely influential on Anthony growing up and now were central to the new record's creation. "In France there is this show on TV where at the end there is a musical guest who plays one or two songs. I remember one night when I was a teenager being at home watching the best of performances and looking at this crazy bass player with a big afro and thinking, 'Wow this guy is so cool.' "And now I am working with him. It's so intense that thinking about it makes me feel weird. But it's weird in a super good way. Same thing with Brad, I was listening to his music when I was first getting into music and now he's on my album." Anthony and Justin met backstage in 2009 at Scotland's T In The Park. Later, "he came to me very genuinely stating that 'he was a fan and that he would love to work with me,'" explains Gonzalez. "I love when people do that because I can tell it's coming from the heart. He was sincere and that's the way I like to work with people." Stepping away from his work with producers Ken Thomas and Ewan Pearson on Saturday, Gonzalez freckles his new chapter with signature M83 fingerprints while pushing himself beyond the constricting emotions of a guarded musician. Bored with being frustrated and shy, Anthony is respectful of the precious time given to him and doesn't want to leave behind any regrets, thus thrusting himself into the spotlight vocally. He tests out different ways of singing, ranging from a spectral breathy whisper to a howling scream, and each voice clings to us like a dew-heavy spider web at dawn. Fans will recognize band member Morgan Kibby, her vocals flirting with the shadowy places in between verses, leaping off the record in spoken word or blending with an adult choir. Morgan will join Anthony on tour but she was never meant to sing as much on this record as she had on pervious projects. Quenching his desire to work with a different person on each record, Gonzalez added LA-based chanteuse Zola Jesus to the mix for the completion of "Intro." "The song was already written but I really wanted a female vocal on it and I was kind of struggling to find the right person, but then I heard her music and it just made sense." Where Saturday=Youth is drenched in lustful exploration and hungry adolescent wonder, Hurry Up is decadently cunning and seductive. "Intro" and "My tears are becoming a sea" eerily croon to you, swirling all of the glitter and growth from the past records into an epic swell, mysteriously and dramatically warning you of the impact you are about to experience. "Midnight City" (disc one) and "OK Pal" (disc two) are humid, adrenaline driven dreams unlike anything we have heard from M83 in the past. "Midnight City" adeptly sweeps you through abandoned concrete streets swimming in broken neon light and aggressively pushing and pulsating to synthetic beats. While "OK Pal" catcalls you to a locker full of mapped out Peter Gabriel-esque echoing lyrics, leaving you stranded in a post-apocalyptic landscape. These journeys are about awakening, craving and conquering. Throughout Hurry Up, We're Dreaming Anthony carries the listener to different countries of sound in his own universe, "We didn't need a story, we didn't need a real world. We just had to keep walking and we became the stories- we became the places." Drifting away from his previous records and reigned in politeness he unleashes all that he has been dreaming of and yearning for. Even when he takes a second to look back on "Echoes of Mine" the velvety, elderly voice of a woman heartbreakingly tells the story of a girl drenched in the shadows of her youth, knowing she has to grow up. Grandiose in scale and inspired by Smashing Pumpkin's revered double disc Melancholy & The Infinite Sadness, Anthony has long had the goal to create his own monumental double disc record. "I saw when I was a teenager that I could dig into it [the album]. It was like a treasure. If I were a teenager nowadays I would try to find something as creative as this album. They had so much to say in their songs." Impressed with the juxtaposing sun and moon artwork featured on Melancholy, Anthony focuses in on another natural duality: siblings. The cover artwork mirrors this relationship, featuring a photograph of a little boy with a little girl sitting on a bed. The photograph perpetuates the conversation for the two distinct voices we behind each disc, representing two sides of an overall piece that are almost the same. "I want people to listen to it as two different human beings that are connected somehow, but every song on the album has a secret on the other side." Soaring and scraping up against the sky while sharing each uncharted frontier with new collaborators is what M83 does best. Gracefully coming into the next decade of his life, Anthony delivers what makes each record sincere, innocent, and full of joy: he gives us his past and his future. "I think it is a reflection of my 30 years of being a human being. It's a compilation of all my previous music together. It's a retrospective of myself." ilovem83.com | facebook.com/m83music | mute.com
